Karen McManus


Karen has over twelve years of fine art appraisal experience and a background in museum registration and academia. In addition to serving as president of JS&A, Karen is an AQB certified USPAP instructor and an adjunct professor in the Sotheby’s Institute Art Business program at Claremont Graduate University. Karen holds two master’s degrees from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree from UCLA. Prior to joining JS&A in 2006, Karen was the permanent collection registrar at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, one of the nation’s most prestigious contemporary art museums. Karen is a certified member and current board member of the Appraisers Association of America. Based in Los Angeles and New York, Karen and her staff are able to assist clients across the country.

Associate Appraiser

Elena joined the JS&A team in 2015 upon graduating Kenyon College with a bachelor’s degree in art history and studio art. Having previously worked at a major gallery, an art advisory firm and a university museum, she now has more than five years of professional involvement in the Fine Art Field and three years of fine art appraisal experience.

Associate Appraiser

Amanda holds a bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has over a decade of experience working as a curator, director of acquisitions, art appraiser, and a liaison for a variety of contemporary artists. Although she formally specializes in California and Western Art, she also holds extensive experience appraising contemporary and modern works of art.

Assistant Appraiser

Leslie started at JS&A in 2017 while completing her master’s degree in art business from the Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She holds a bachelor’s degree in French from Georgetown University, and has two years of experience in the fine art field having worked at a boutique auction house.


Jackie founded her eponymous appraisal firm nearly forty years ago. In the fall of 2017, she retired and passed the torch to her trusted colleague Karen McManus. Jackie continues to serve as a consultant on special appraisal projects.
